Issues related to substance use among university student athletes

Aims


The aim of this study is to investigate a range of substance use issues among a sample of university student athletes. The study’s aims are to understand student athletes’ knowledge of recreational illicit drugs and the effects of these drugs; information sources they may use to gain information about illicit drugs and how credible they rate these sources; their attitudes toward drug testing in sport; their use of nutritional supplements and conditioning aids; and self-reported alcohol and illicit drug use.

Design and Method



This study will use a cross-sectional design. Participants will be university student athletes from a variety of sports at the University of New South Wales, who will self-complete a structured interview schedule.
