Aims
To determine how people achieve change (either reduction or cessation) from self-defined problematic cannabis use without the assistance of formal treatments.
Design and Method
An original survey has been designed and posted on the web. It investigates:
- Cannabis use history and related physical and psychological symptoms
- The decision to change cannabis use
- Initial attempts to change cannabis use (and to manage withdrawal, if present)
- Sustained attempts to change cannabis use
- Associated life changes (including physical and psychological symptoms) and lapses since changing cannabis use.
Given the exploratory nature of this study, survey items are a combination of forced-choice and open-ended questions, to be analysed using both statistical methods and qualitative analyses, where appropriate.
