- DrugInfo Clearinghouse:
DrugInfo Clearinghouse collects, interprets and disseminates information on drug prevention. It is provided by the Australian Drug Foundation and funded by the Victorian Government Its in-house library offers an online catalogue.
- Drug and Alcohol Services South Australia (DASSA):
This government funded organisation in South Australia provides statewide services and policy advice for tobacco, alcohol and other drug issues, including pharmaceuticals and illicit drugs. Its library offers an online catalogue.
- Alcohol and Other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA):
ADCA is the peak, non-government organization in Australia, promoting evidence-based approaches to prevent and treat drug and alcohol problems. Its in-house library offers an online catalogue.
Europe
- Archido:
The Archido Information and Research Centre for Tobacco, Alcohol, Pharmaceuticals, Drugs and Addictions is based at the University of Bremen, Germany, and cooperates with documentation centres and information services in Germany and Europe. The database is searchable in German only, however, English language bibliographies are available.
- Elisad Gateway:
The European Association of Libraries and Information Services on Alcohol and other Drugs (Elisad) Gateway provides access to quality web resources in the AOD field across 32 European countries.
- European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA):
EMCDDA is an agency of the European Union providing reliable information on drugs and drug addiction. Its website offers on-line reports, databases about drug usage and prevention programs plus an Evaluation Instruments Bank containing substance use screening/assessment instruments.
UK
- Alcohol Concern:
Alcohol Concern is a national agency on alcohol misuse in England and Wales. Its library offers an online catalogue, covering the literature on alcohol related problems, treatment and prevention.
- Drugscope:
Drugscope is the United Kingdom’s leading independent centre of expertise on drugs, providing access to information and resources on drugs, drug misuse, and related issues. Its information and library services offer an online catalogue.
- National Library for Health (Public Health):
This specialist library aims to improve access to evidence-based literature for public health practitioners and policy makers. The website provides information on HIV/AIDS and issues relating to alcohol and tobacco use.
USA
- The Lindesmith Libarary:
The Lindesmith Center is an independent organisation working to broaden the public debate on drug policy and to promote realistic alternatives to the war on drugs based on science, compassion, health and human rights. Its library holds one of the largest online collections (more than 10000 documents) on these topics.
- National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information (NCADI):
NCADI distributes substance abuse prevention and treatment information from a various US government agencies. Its website provides links to a number of useful US government databases for finding information on drug and alcohol issues.
- National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS):
This contains a range of alcohol and other drug information dealing with law enforcement and criminal justice.
- National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA):
As part of the US National Institutes of Health, the NIAAA is a peak government-funded research centre, focusing on alcohol abuse and addiction. It offers a number of useful databases including arhival ETOH which still has great value for the alcohol and other drug field.
- National Library of Medicine (NLM) Databases:
It is the biggest government owned medical library in the United States, offering several databases:
- LocatorPlus: Books, journals and audiovisual titles from the National Library of Medicine
- PubMed/Medline: Offers access to the database of the National Library of Medicine (MEDLINE) with more than 15,000,000 citations from Medline and additional life science journals for biomedical articles back to the 1950's. PubMed includes links to full text articles and other related resources
- MedlinePlus: Contains health and drug information for the general community
- New York Academy of Medicine Library - Grey Literature Report
This is a a bimonthly newsletter alerting readers to new grey literature in the health services and public health fields. Entries can be searched via the online grey literature catalogue of the library.
- PubMed Search Strategies for Alcohol-Related Problems:
This database contains sample searches conducted in PubMed on alcohol-related topics.
- Substance Use Screening and Assessment Instruments Database, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute, University of Washington:
This database is intended to help clinicians and researchers find instruments used for screening and assessment of substance use disorders.
- Project Cork Institute at Dartmouth Medical School
Project Cork produces a bibliographic database and offers it online. The CORK database has now more than 69,000 citation-holdings.
Other International Bibliographic Databases
- Alcohol Advisory Council of New Zealand (ALAC)
ALAC has a searchable library catalogue with books, videos, journals, articles, conference reports and proceedings on alcohol-related problems. The website also contains links to statistical data.
- LILACS and MedCarib
LILACS indexes literature from the Latin American and Carribean region. Entries have English abstracts and the database accepts English, Spanish & Portuguese search terms. The database simultaneously searches Medline and other thematic databases from the region such as MEDCARIB.
