Study Programs
Studying for a postgraduate degree is strongly encouraged at NDARC. As of August 2008 25 NDARC students have been awarded PhDs since the opening of the Centre. A list of successful NDARC theses can be found
here.
Research Degrees (usually PhDs) can be done at NDARC if the candidate is enrolled in the School of Community Medicine at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Research degrees conducted through other schools (such as Psychology) may also be done at NDARC, however this needs to be approved by the School. There are three options:
1. A research degree through the School of Community Medicine, UNSW.
To conduct research at NDARC as a part of any degree you will first need to ensure you can enrol in the degree (eg PhD, Masters by research) through the School of Community Medicine, UNSW. Once you are sure you can enrol in the degree you then need to identify an appropriate NDARC academic staff member who you would to like to supervise your project (see NDARC website for interest areas) and discuss the project with them. Usually you would contact academic staff via email in the first instance.
2. A research degree attached to a course you are currently enrolled in.
If you are already enrolled in a course (eg Master of Public Health) and you would like to conduct the research component (ie the treatise research project) at NDARC you will need to:
(i) Check with your school/ institution whether you are allowed to do the research component of your degree through NDARC.
(ii) Identify an appropriate NDARC academic staff member who you would to like to supervise your project (see NDARC website for interest areas) and discuss the project with them.
3. A research degree conducted through a School other than Community Medicine which you are not currently enrolled in.
If you are not yet enrolled in a course and do not want to enrol in one of the programs offered by the School of Community Medicine, but would like to enrol in a course offered by different school (eg Psychology) and conduct the associated research through NDARC you will need to:
(i) Ensure that the School will allow you to conduct your research at NDARC.
(ii) Identify and an NDARC appropriate academic staff member who you would to like to supervise your project (see NDARC website for interest areas) and discuss the project with them.
Which ever option is applicable, please be sure you check that that school you are (or plan to be) enrolled in will allow you to conduct your research NDARC before you approach NDARC about the research.
