The NDARC Symposium is an annual showcase of the research being undertaken by the Centre. Our aim is to translate our research findings for a clinical and policy-making audience. Both senior and junior researchers present their work in a variety of formats.

In 2014, researchers will present findings from four landmark studies:

  • an 11 year follow up of heroin users (the ATOS follow up)
  • pharmaceutical opioid use among 1500 Australians living with chronic non-cancer pain (the POINT study)
  • combining universal and personality-targeted approaches in a drug & alcohol school prevention program (the CAP study)
  • the effects of parental supply of alcohol to adolescents (the Parental Supply study)

For the first time in 2014 the Symposium will include concurrent one hour sessions on key areas of interest. Delegates can attend one of the following four sessions:

  • interventions using new technologies
  • three brief interventions for cannabis use disorder to be delivered in clinical settings
  • social determinants of drug and alcohol use
  • criminal offending, mortality and opioid subsitution therapy

The program will conclude with a facilitated discussion on alcohol-related violence.
