Congratulations to Dr Sarah Larney on being awarded the 2014 Australasian Professional Society for Alcohol and other Drugs (APSAD) Early Career Award.

The prize recognises excellence in research by a postgraduate scientist or researcher who has been working in the substance misuse field for less than 10 years.

Since completing her PhD at NDARC in 2011, Dr Larney has conducted extensive research into the harms of opioid dependence, the role of opioid pharmacotherapies in addressing these harms, and the epidemiology of hepatitis C and HIV infection among prisoners and those who inject drugs. As part of her NHMRC Early Career Research Fellowship, Dr Larney spent two years based at Alpert Medical School at Brown University in the United States, returning to NDARC in April 2014.

Dr Larney will receive her award at a gala dinner on Tuesday 11 November. She will also deliver the Early Career Keynote at this year's APSAD Conference.

The APSAD Awards are held annually as part of the APSAD Conference and aim to recognise those who have made an outstanding contribution to reducing the harms associated with alcohol and other drug use in Australasia.
