Matthew is a NHMRC Early Career Research Fellow and lead investigator on a NHMRC project grant examining diagnostic issues with old age depression. Matthew's primary research interests involve the application of novel statistical techniques (latent variable analyses, Item Response Theory) to investigate issues with classification and diagnostic assessment in the general population. Investigating novel methods for developing short form diagnostic assessments and dimensional methods of diagnosis such as computerised adaptive testing are also of interest. Matthew's broader research interests involve the epidemiology of mood and anxiety disorders, comorbidity between internalising and externalising disorders, and the implications of drug and alcohol policy on the broader population.
