This one-day workshop hosted by the Qualitative Research Network (QRN) Hub at UNSW Sydney
is aimed at all beginners in qualitative research. Through intensive training, this workshop will
provide researchers with an overview of qualitative interviewing and the different forms it can take.
Combined with practical components, and insight from highly experienced qualitative researchers,
participants will develop a sound basis of planning and conducting an interview. This workshop is
vital for anyone who intends to obtain their qualitative data in a rigorous and in-depth way.

• Explain the basic principles of interviewing
• Understand different approaches to interviewing
• Apply a range of techniques to effectively conduct an interview
• Identify issues relating to ethics and rigour in conducting interviews
• Gain practical experience in designing and conducting an interview
