More than 250 attendees – including researchers, clinicians, colleagues and sector representatives from state and federal governments – joined us for the 2018 NDARC Annual Research Symposium on Monday, 8 October 2018.

This year’s event had a strong focus on research translation through partnerships and research performed in clinical settings.

Keynote speaker, Professor Louis Fiore from the Boston University School of Public Health shared his experience of embedding research evaluation into the delivery of routine clinical services.

Associate Professor Nicholas Lintzeris, Director of Drug and Alcohol Services, South Eastern Sydney Local Health District, demonstrated how this approach is benefitting clinicians and clients in New South Wales through the Clinical Outcomes and Quality Indicators system.

NDARC doctoral candidate and psychologist with Coffs Harbour Drug and Alcohol Service, Ms Catherine Foley presented on the development and testing of a framework to increase the uptake of integrated care into routine service delivery by drug and alcohol and mental health clinical services.

In the afternoon, Professor Julie Bruneau from Université de Montreal presented on the opioid crisis in North America, including the prevention and treatment responses being undertaken and evaluated.
