Zahra Alam-Mehrjerdi joined NDARC in August 2013 as a PhD candidate and research officer. Before joining NDARC, Zahra worked as a registered clinical psychologist and a senior research officer at Iranian National Centre for Addiction Studies (INCAS) in Tehran for more than 10 years. Her main research interests include randomised control trials (RCT), methamphetamine use, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and heroin use especially among women.

With the collaboration of Prof. Kate Dolan at NDARC, she has recently contributed to the development of two books on medically-assisted treatment of opioid dependence treatment. The project has been funded by Australian National Council on Drugs (ANCD). Currently, she is working on the evaluation of brief CBT in the treatment of methamphetamine use on methadone programme among women which is a prestigious RCT.  Part of her research is related to the role of CBT in the improvement of general health especially depression among women.
