Michala Kowalski joined the Drug Policy Modelling Program (DPMP) as a research officer in 2017, and is currently working across three different projects: 1) Drugs on the darknet: Assessing the global health risks of a rapidly expanding market led by Monica Barratt, 2) The Horizons Project: An empirical analysis of alcohol and drug treatment funding, purchasing and workforce mechanisms led by Alison Ritter, and 3) Routine Opioid Outcome Monitoring in Community Pharmacy led by Suzanne Nielsen.

Michala graduated from the University of Sydney with a masters in Qualitative Health Research in 2017. For her research, Michala conducted an ethnographic study of people who buy drugs from cryptomarkets, with a focus on gender, ritual, and processes.

Research interests include epistemology, bioethics, gender, identity, and technology.
