Reaching smoke-free: how can we improve smoking cessation treatment?

Bernadett Tildy
Resource Type: NDARC Seminars

Bernadett Tidly presented at the NDARC Webinar Series on Thursday 24 November, 2022.

This webinar explored the provision of smoking cessation treatments, including e-cigarettes, in the context of primary care.

It provided an overview of investigations into how smoking cessation treatment provision in the UK could be improved – and the roles prescription e-cigarettes may play – to further reduce the prevalence of smoking and meet England’s smoke-free 2030 target (≤ 5% smoking prevalence).

Our speaker's PhD has a focus on reducing the prevalence of smoking in certain disadvantaged groups, such as people who have mental health conditions.

About the speaker

Bernadett Tildy is a PhD student within the Nicotine Research Group in the Addictions Department at King’s College London. Her research investigates how smoking cessation treatment provision could be improved, to address how countries can reach the ‘tobacco endgame’ goal (e.g. England’s ‘smoke-free’ 2030 target, ≤5% adult smoking prevalence).

Bernadett is interested in public health and health inequities. After seeing the physically debilitating effect of tobacco, and the political environment tobacco companies operate in to keep people addicted to their harmful products, she was motivated to generate research evidence towards policies which aim to reduce smoking prevalence, especially in disadvantaged groups (such as people who have mental health conditions) where smoking prevalence is disproportionately high.
